This road trip through the Mendips and North Somerset has beautiful views, interesting history, and a hint of nostalgia for the beach. You'll start in the limestone peaks of the Mendip Hills, which are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From there, you'll wind your way through a landscape shaped by time, where caves, gorges, and valleys tell stories that go back millions of years.

Visit Cheddar Gorge, one of England's most beautiful natural sites, and explore its old caves before walking through the village that gave its name to Britain's most famous cheese. From there, go to Wells, which is England's smallest city. The beautiful façade of Wells Cathedral rises above the cobblestone streets and market squares. Glastonbury is only a short drive away. Its mysterious Tor, abbey ruins, and bohemian vibe add a touch of legend and spirituality.

The view of the North Somerset shoreline opens up as the road goes down towards the coast. Take a walk along the beach at Weston-super-Mare, eat fish and chips on the pier, or go to Brean Down and Sand Point for quiet walks along the headland with great views of the Bristol Channel.

Bristol and Bath are two cultural gems that are perfect for ending your trip. They are both close to the wild Mendips. Bath's Georgian streets and Roman baths are peaceful and elegant, while Bristol's harbourside is full of creative energy.

This flexible route is perfect for a few days of exploring because it's only 75 miles (120 km) long and has a lot of character, variety, and quiet, unhurried moments that make road trips special.
