Overnight Stays — Scottish Heritage Golf Trail

This is a longer, more linear journey than many UK road trips — stretching approximately 226 miles (364 km) with around 7 hours 45 minutes of driving before factoring in detours, tee times and coastal routes.

The route moves from the exposed links of East Lothian, through the historic golfing heart of Fife and St Andrews, and on towards Angus, Perthshire and central Scotland.

Unlike shorter circular routes, this journey works best when broken into logical golfing corridors — allowing you to minimise early starts, reduce unnecessary driving, and keep the rhythm of the trip relaxed.

How the Journey Works

This route moves through three distinct landscapes — the exposed links coastline of East Lothian, the historic golfing heartland of Fife, and the softer inland scenery of Perthshire and central Scotland.

Planning your stays around these transitions creates a much smoother experience, allowing each region to feel distinct while keeping driving practical around tee times.

Campervans & Motorhomes

This route can be completed by campervan, but it requires more planning than compact routes like Fife. Many of the key golf destinations sit within towns or along busy coastal roads.

Using a base-led approach works best — particularly around St Andrews and East Lothian — rather than moving nightly.

Expect tighter parking near courses and coastal towns, and plan overnight stops in advance, especially during peak golfing season.

With the right structure, this still works as a rewarding road trip — combining world-class golf with historic cities, coastline and inland landscapes.
